Welcome to Ryse: Son of Rome - an epic tale of betrayal, revenge and divine intervention. You play as Marius Titus, a young Roman soldier fighting for the honor of his family and Rome.

Step One – History:

You'll get the most achievements in story mode. The story will take you at least two playthroughs. The first playthrough can be done at any difficulty level, and the second will have to be completed on “Legendary”. Playing on Centurion difficulty will give you 19 achievements (580).

For the second playthrough you will receive 8 achievements (40).

During the passage you will also be able to get achievements related to collecting and other achievements.

Step two - Multiplayer:

This is where you'll spend most of your time trying to hit 1000. The achievements aren't too difficult, but they do take a lot of time.

Following the instructions of the game you will learn how to counterattack, attack and use combo attacks. We follow the bridge, interrupting the barbarians, not forgetting to push down the stairs.

After clearing the bridge, we need to organize the defense of the right flank, press the confirmation button and part of the troops is sent to defend. Now our task is to help in defense using the Roman crossbow "Scorpio". Do not rush to immediately knock over the vats of oil, wait until a group of barbarians approaches, also do not forget about the fiery volley and archers on wooden platforms.

Having fought off the army of barbarians, the Hero enters the palace, there we meet that same emperor, his name is Nero. Having recaptured the shore, we move further towards the buildings. While your people are holding the defense, archers are attacking them, take pilums and throw them at the archers. Having successfully repulsed the first wave of barbarians, the Roman army retreats to the river and to the ships. We go forward, we make our way through the slums, we will meet enemies on the way and cut them down. Having reached the river we see a barge (ship) which is being fired at by barbarians. Our task is to defend it, we go along the river and kill the barbarians we come across. Moving forward we find ourselves in a burning building, we carefully move forward, reach the cart and push it over, thereby breaking the gate and freeing the people. Having left the building, we continue our journey defending the barge. We reach the bridge, a small group of soldiers is stuck here, and archers are lying on the other side of the bridge.

Having followed the barge with our eyes, we approach the flag and order the soldiers to line up, having lined up we begin to advance along the bridge, covering ourselves in time with shields and throwing pilums. Having recaptured the bridge, we move on to the courthouse. We meet Vitalion at the building, here the soldiers hold the last line of defense while the main troops climb into the ships. Chapter 8: Son of Rome

The barbarian army has entered Rome, the Roman army is ready to meet. We have a crossbow at our disposal, so we begin shooting the marked enemies by pressing the fire volley button in time. Do not rush to knock over the vats, wait until enough enemies have accumulated near them. A little later, elephants and thugs will come, and we’ll shoot them with a crossbow.

But the defense weakened and Vitalion went to help, but Buddika arrived in time on a huge war elephant, Vitalion entered into battle with her. Seeing this, Mari went to support Vitalion. We go forward along the corridor, killing barbarians along the way. Going out to the street we meet a small group of soldiers, together we go to the gate behind which Vitalion is fighting. While several soldiers are trying to open the passage, our task is to defend ourselves from the barbarians.

I recommend concentrating all the soldiers on the left, and defending the right side yourself (luckily there is a crossbow), but if the point is played, you are afraid, you can send the soldiers to the left and the archers to the right. Having opened the passage, we enter the main battle, while we were fighting Buddika killed Vitalion, seeing this, Mari was confused and was defeated, and the goddess of Summer comes into play again. Having woken up, Mari returns to the battle, we go forward, cut down the barbarians by the river, take a crossbow and overturn the vat on the opposite side of the river. We go further, we go out onto the terrace, we need to get to the crossbow on the other side of the river, across the bridge along which the war elephants are running, we walk without fear, moving out of the elephant’s path in time.

Having reached the crossbow, Mari shoots at Buddika’s elephant and he falls, but Buddika doesn’t have a scratch. Our task is to correct this unfortunate misunderstanding. We go forward to the square, the battle begins. Whenever she hits, we jump back (three times) and then strike (twice) and jump back again, and so on 5 times. The second part of the battle is practically no different. Remember at the beginning of the game, Mari handed over a certain bag and said that the contents should be shown from the very top, so the contents are Buddika’s head. And we are transported again to the treasury. The Emperor begs to give the blade to him so that he can kill himself as Oracle bequeathed. But Emperor Nero calls his soldiers and goes into hiding.

Mari follows him into the corridor, where he is met by the god of Winter and he explains that he manipulated everyone to destroy Rome, while Mari listened to Winter, Nero approached him and pierced Mari with a blade. The God of Summer did not allow Winter to finish killing Maria and they evaporated.

We walk along the corridor performing a series of QTEs, until Marius reached the end of the corridor, he was already mercilessly cut up, but this did not stop him from jumping from the balcony along with the emperor, while Marius fell to the floor, Emperor Nero found himself impaled on the blade of his own statue.

That's it, it's over. Unfortunately our hero died.

The fate of many long-term construction projects has befallen. Son of Rome was developed for the Xbox 360 by Crytek Budapest and was called Codename: Kingdoms, but was later transferred to Crytek head office. At first it was adapted for Kinect, but in the end this idea was abandoned.

In the end, the German creation moved to the next generation of Xbox, but, alas, creative throwing could not but affect the quality. Crytek clearly didn't have enough time to smooth out the corners and polish everything.

Spear to the knee

The facial animation in the game is no worse than in some L.A. Noire.

The combat system seems to have not been touched since the days when Ryse was still heading for the Kinect, it is so primitive. All that Mari, the main character, is capable of is to chop opponents with a sword, reflect blows, break through blocks with a shield and, of course, roll. Finishing off requires almost no additional effort from the player. When the enemies' health is running low, an icon appears above their heads - and with the press of one button, the legionnaire begins to cut off enemy limbs in slow motion and pierce through the bodies, flooding the surrounding area with blood. You can throw spears at enemies - there are plenty of them in the level, but aiming is so clumsy and awkward that you will probably spend most of your time fighting with swords.

That's basically all the mechanics. There are no complex combinations, no special attacks, nothing that we are used to seeing in high-quality slashers, and all the main attacks are open from the very beginning. Such a meager set of skills is explained, again, by the past of the project - it’s one thing to press buttons, it’s another thing to do everything the same, but yourself, with the help of your own hands and feet. It's a bit poor. And considering that the opponents are not very intelligent or diverse (there are only a few types), the battles are depressingly the same, only the number of enemies and virtual arenas change.

At such moments, it seems as if you are not playing a game made for the launch of the ultra-modern Xbox One, but a cheap slasher film from the nineties. Ryse is generally too old-fashioned in places. Sometimes it gets funny. So, for example, Mari could have saved his father by simply throwing a spear at the barbarian, but no - an invisible wall built by lazy game designers is in the way. And when Mari appears at the Colosseum to kill his sworn enemy, the situation repeats itself: the right person is standing on a pedestal, take a spear and finish with him, but the plot doesn’t give a pipe. What’s even more comical is that we managed to hit the target a couple of times, but the spears remained stuck in the speaker’s body, and he himself didn’t blink an eye. New technologies, you know!

The fact that Ryse was once a Kinect game is revealed by the level design. If , and implied some variability, then in Son of Rome all you can do is obediently go where they tell you. The locations here are like a pipe: no side branches, no hidden passages - go straight, and even if you crack! Crytek probably themselves understood that Son of Rome has too little content to allow players to deviate from the course.

Crytek plays on contrast: one minute we are running through the sunny streets of Rome captured by the barbarians, and the next minute we land on the gloomy British shores.

Meal'n'Real!

The main advantage of Ryse is that the game does not try to look deeper than it is. On the contrary, the Germans brought to the fore everything that usually attracts people to such games. Here is a silly summer blockbuster, which nevertheless has everything to keep you from getting bored: an uncluttered setting, picturesque levels, large-scale battles and mind-blowing epicness.

If we draw analogies with cinema, then Son of Rome is an adaptation of Zack Snyder’s films, in particular “300,” onto a game basis. And Ryse honestly works out the program: here you have exorbitant cruelty, light drama, and spectacular scenes. Crytek turn on pathetic music on time and escalate the atmosphere with inspiring speeches of commanders (pronounced with invariable anguish). As soon as the monotonous battles become completely boring, the Germans immediately produce an unexpectedly strong episode, bring interesting characters onto the stage, and make you empathize. I want to continue, at least to find out how Maria’s story ends. That's the point - looking at Ryse is much more interesting than playing it.

No, you were not mistaken - there really is a living person impaled on the tip of the blade in the hands of the gigantic statue of the emperor.

Moreover, at the end Crytek “turns on HBO” - the writers, in the best traditions of “Game of Thrones,” put character after character, and the main character unravels political conspiracies and seeks revenge. But something else is more important: the authors of Crysis had enough sense of proportion and taste to finish the story beautifully and put a meaningful end to it.

Pictures, unfortunately, do not convey all the beauty of the game, so take my word for it - Ryse’s work with light and particles is simply exemplary.

Maria's story leaves behind even more impressions than the last Call of Duty. Keep your fingers crossed: a landing on the shores of Britain, quoting "Saving Private Ryan", shredded Roman soldiers whom the barbarians left dangling in the trees as a warning, a battle with a huge big guy posing as a minotaur, a turtle attack during which you have to deflect flaming arrows with a shield enemy archers... And the huge burning scarecrow, inside of which the savages locked living people, can safely be included in the best scenes of 2013! There aren’t that many truly memorable moments, but the ones that exist stretch the game out. And thanks to its brevity - it will hardly take you more than six to seven hours to complete eight chapters - the story campaign turns out to be intense.

Barbarians are not distinguished by their intelligence and vitality; most go down in three or four hits.

THIS IS INTERESTING: in Ryse, as in and, there is a transaction system, but if in the games of Visceral Games and Ubisoft the purchase of resources gave real advantages and saved a lot of time, then in Son of Rome you are simply throwing money away - Crytek’s creation is already easy, and the experience , which can be purchased for real money, literally flows like a river here. Why buy it again?

The most beautiful of the imperial cities

When you talk about any exclusive for new generation consoles, you can’t forget about the graphics. While competitors go into fantasy worlds and unleash titans against you, the creators of Crysis focus on realism (yes, there are gods in the game, but they are not placed at the center of the story). If the Germans diversify the combat system, give players freedom of movement and create even more spectacular scenes, the Ryse sequel will have a chance to rise to the level of the best slashers.

Start Chapter 3 (Trial by Fire) and set the bonus to XP. Play until you reach the point where the ships crash. Fight your enemies and try to get the highest combo to increase your XP. The higher the difficulty level, the more XP you can earn. Then you will be given the task to capture the tower. Let yourself be killed by archers and you will be restarted at the beginning of the level, where you can repeat the previous operation until you have accumulated the desired amount of experience. You will need approximately 10 battles to level up your character. If you set the difficulty to maximum you will get a lot more XP. To get all upgrades you need 250,000 XP.

Easter Eggs
